Portals Rental Market Place Alpha is now Live

Portals Ivory, Onyx, and Vision NFT holders can test out the renting experience in the alpha release.

Portals X Cardinal Labs: NFT Rental Marketplace Alpha

Cardinal-powered Portals now offers an alpha version of their rental marketplace as a first step to give you temporary access to the Portals space.

In a Twitter thread on April 6, Cardinal announced that an independent listing was disabled for now to reduce scope, however, it listed 10 Ivory cards that can be rented. A separate announcement from Portals specifies that the alpha release will test the renting experience for users of the Portals Ivory, Onyx, and Vision NFT. Notably, Portals entered into a partnership with Cardinal Labs in March to launch the first Portals NFT rentals in April. https://cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?type=text%2Fhtml&key=96f1f04c5f4143bcb0f2e68c87d65feb&schema=twitter&url=https%3A//twitter.com/cardinal_labs/status/1511759774467166214&image=https%3A//abs.twimg.com/errors/logo46x38.png

On March 22, Cardinals Labs shared a video demonstration showing how Portal users can rent out their NFT access cards to interested patrons for use in exploring the metaverse. A card is automatically revoked at the end of the rental period and given back to the original owner.

In addition to NFT lending, Portals is going to launch Standard Citizen Cards on April 13 as discussed in their roadmap. According to an earlier article by Mark Jurgens from Web3 Wire, it will be a free private mint for Ivory, Onyx, and Vision NFT holders.

What is Portals?

Portals is a web-based world. It is a social space where you can explore and meet up with other people. It focuses on a dense city center and a zero-friction user experience.

According to Portals’ site, Portals makes it easy to create immersive virtual spaces, like homes, offices, game experiences, or storefronts, in a downtown area. They have easy-to-use build tools and built-in communication features. They want to build a dense, virtual Neo-Tokyo or New York, where people can explore a single city block with hundreds of fun things to do and find.

Portals further added that city planning and real estate would be done to make the city center dense and exciting for everyone to see.

What is Cardinal Labs?‍

Cardinal is a Solana protocol that aims to improve the utility of NFTs and empower the next generation of on-chain digital assets. With the Cardinal standard, you can either wrap an existing token or create a new one with built-in revocation, automatic expiration, and selective transferability.

A set of contracts deployed on Solana securely control all the Cardinal Protocol tokens. Using Cardinal, you as an NFT holder can create a token manager, set the contract’s rules, and deposit their NFT. Then, if you are a borrower, you can take the token out of escrow and purchase it, along with all the rights that token holders receive, depending on the parameters set by the issuer.

Cardinal’s docs mention that the protocol includes out-of-the-box plugins for time-invalidation and payment collection, as well as a usage counter for providing usage unlocking tokens.
