Solana Struggles to Keep up as Tiny Colony Mint Begins

An Extension was put in place as users scurried to mint their whitelisted Tiny Colony Characters, putting the network under strain. The public round continues after whitelisted users eventually snap up their NFTs.

Character Mint Kicks Off

Tiny Colony began its long-awaited Character Mint on Fractal and saw Solana’s network unable to keep up with the rampant user demand.

The mint got underway with whitelisted holders taking part in the first round from 22:00 UTC on April 28. However, it quickly became apparent that those holding their relevant whitelist tokens were not going to be able to mint their allocated Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) as the network ground to a halt. Fractal even addressed the issue, urging patience via tweet:https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-4&features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfX0%3D&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1519809975979184128&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.web3wire.news%2Fpost%2Fsolana-struggles-to-keep-up-as-tiny-colony-mint-begins&sessionId=e5c577bf2a437304e29bec409ee792587c269e28&theme=light&widgetsVersion=c8fe9736dd6fb%3A1649830956492&width=550px

Waiting times of over 30 minutes were reported by whitelisted users who were trying to mint and were often met with the same response of an inability to complete a transaction on Fractal. Although, the initial problems did subside after Tiny Colony and Fractal addressed the issues and urged patience before taking their measures.

The Tiny Colony team was not necessarily disappointed, noting that the issues resulted from the massive interest in the mint. However, the team, alongside Fractal, did extend the minting period for whitelisted users and will see the public sale continue for the next two days. We reached out to Tiny Colony and received an exclusive comment from the Chief Marketing Officer, Topher Bradshaw.

“Looks like our community showed up and took down Solana. I’m sure this was frustrating for those that had numerous failed transactions during the mint. Solana is still a great network but proves there could be improvements in certain areas,” Bradshaw told Web3 Wire

The initial whitelist Mint saw NFTs snapped up for 1 SOL each at just over 4000 minted. With over 5000 remaining for the public sale at 1.5 SOL, the next few days will be important for Tiny Colony. After unveiling a comprehensive and transparent way of updating its community on the progress of its game, Tiny Colony has pushed on toward its character mint. It is on its way toward meeting its relevant bi-weekly targets.

Web3Wire will be following the conclusion of the mint and its eventual secondary release.

What is Tiny Colony:

Tiny Colony is an expansive pixelated metaverse built on the Solana blockchain where players can construct their colony. Colonies built and managed correctly can earn tokens by joining quests or participating and wagering in battles. Spend those tokens purchasing more NFTs for your colony or repairs of your base after a battle.
